PROJECT-SUPPORT CABO VERDE

2024-30-CVP-SDG 4 / Delta Cultura Cabo Verde

SDG 4: Quality Education

Association Delta Cultura Switzerland, Emmenbrücke, Switzerland

Country / Place

Cabo Verde, Tarrafal

The Republic of Cabo Verde is an African island state consisting of the Cabo Verde Islands in the Central Atlantic, 570 kilometres off the west coast of the African continent. The group of islands consists of nine inhabited islands and a further 16 or so small islets. The archipelago has a land area of around 4’000 square kilometres and around 480’000 inhabitants. A good half of the population is concentrated on the main island of Santiago, where the capital Praia is located in the south-east. With around 140’000 inhabitants, Praia is the largest city in the country and the economic centre of the islands.

Tarrafal is a town in the north-west of the island of Santiago with around 18’000 inhabitants.

General

Delta Cultura ends poverty through education. By recognising and promoting the potential of children, they make a significant contribution to self-determination, vigilant action, and social change. Delta Cultura's core competence is education. They develop educational programmes aimed at recognising and promoting potential. The programmes encourage natural curiosity and the ability to tackle challenges and make decisions. To this end, they create a network of expertise, ensure the participation of educators, and provide the necessary infrastructure.

Beneficiaries

The association Delta Cultura Cabo Verde and the Education Centre in Tarrafal pursue one main goal; to create and improve future prospects for children and young people. The path to achieving these goals began with the construction of the education centre in 2004/2005, and since then the quality of the education has gradually been improving.

The education centre - a "safe place"
The term doesn't just refer to a physical place that keeps dangers and threats away. It is about a place of trust where the children and young people feel comfortable, a place of security, a place where they can discover and develop their talents, a place where mistakes can be made, a place where strengths take centre stage and not weaknesses, a place where the voices of the children and young people are heard and taken seriously.

Delta Cultura also focuses on further training for employees. The focus here is on neuroscientific findings related to learning and personal development. Volunteering at the education centre is very important, which is why every year they are looking for people to work at the centre for at least 2 months.
